Lolita was a play about an (approximately) 13-year-old girl named Lolita who would seduce older men. Lolita style clothing make women look like little girls. Is there any connection here? The names are even the same.
I discovered this when I told my father how much I admired lolita clothes, and he didn’t know what they were. He thought I was talking about the play and was very shocked. He says that the style is based on pedophillia, True or false?
Japanese Lotlita has little to do with the book by Nabokov, according to the Japanese and fans of the style. It does involve turning grown woman into highly stylized little girls with lots of ruffles, lace, bows, and cupcake dresses worthy of a “toddlers and Tiaras” grand supreme winner -but it has nothing to do with Lolita the book or pedophilia. It has very deep cultural roots in both Japanese modern culture and 1800′s western culture.
It does have more to do with older American Victorian era dresses and the way these were adapted and used in Japanese Anime (cartoons) and Manga (comic books) These girls have more to do with fancy porcelain dolls of the 1800′s and the doll clothes than anything else. The 1800′s where when children stopped being little adults who had to work in factories and farms ones they reached the ripe old age of 8 and it became what we know see as an age of innocence, play, and freedom. The Japanese latched onto the clothes of the era because there childhood is strictly regimented until adulthood with little time for play or freedom. Once they are out of school many girl dress like children as a way to explore a time of life they didn’t have. Japanese Lolita clothes are supposed to remove sexuality from dressing with longer skirts, stocking, and showing far less skin than most modern children’s every-day clothes. There’s also the off-shoot of “gothic Lolita” which still includes ruffles, lots of lace, but more black and a little more racy/sexy in look.
So the style is not based on pedophilia…at least not the American Western definition. It’s more about a return to innocence no matter one’s age. Lolita girls are supposed to be idealized children and childhood but it’s moved away from the ideals and philosophy and moved more into a movement about a style. It has become more about Victorian Influenced girl’s clothes with lots of full skirts, ruffles, lace and ribbons. That’s not how it’s seen in the west, but that’s the reality of the style. Lolita, gothic lolita, sweet lolita, visual kei and ganguro and other Japanese centered styles are all rooted in western culture, but have little association with the original inspiration any longer

Sorry for this rambling info – watched a movie on Comcast cable shown about 1-2 years ago – B/W B movie style but not old – definitely not 50′s -maybe 80-90′s – A space “couple” and a monster (really pathetic costume – on purpose I assume) land on earth looking to replenish ??. The monster doesn’t appear much till the end of movie. The space couple either look normal or assume human features – they end up going to a cabin where another couple asks them in. Long scenes in the cabin as the space couple struggle with normal questions/offers from the cabin couple.There is a woman who is made to act like a cat – tries to seduce the male owner of the cabin and keeps saying “BROWER” – there is also a scientist who is out in the woods looking for ?? who runs into them – in the last 15-20 minutes of the movie the space couple are back at their spaceship with the cabin couple – the monster shows up, etc. Very campy movie but cannot find anything searching si-fi sites. Thanks for any help!

Y’know, everyone has a style. Some guys have a 6 month plan to get with a certain girl. Some guys are able to seduce her within a few minutes, James Bond for example. There are many others out there.
So, I’m kinda bored right now and I’m curious and want opinions about mine. I do ask girls this regardless of whether I’m successful or not. I have about 10% of women that just walk away though.

I’m pretty kind. I always insult people, yet I never hurt people. My insults are like playful teases that’ll make you laugh.
If there are people that insult me or bring negativity towards me, I’ll either say “ok” and ignore it/brush it off, or I’ll play along with it.
I don’t really care what people think of the way I act, or rather, I’m too lazy to bother caring. This doesn’t mean I’m a slob. I actually dress well. And I smell nice; Those are my top compliments.
